Street Snap #54 Shibuya Station | KODAK Charmera Keychain Digital Camera debut

I photographed the area around Shibuya Station using the “KODAK CHARMERA Keychain Digital Camera.”

I usually document Shibuya with the RICOH GR IV. However, when I looked at the images taken with the “KODAK CHARMERA,” the impression was entirely different. Although it is the same place, it feels as if I am touching a different layer of the city. There is a strange sense of distance, and familiar scenes begin to emerge as something new.

With a camera this small and light, like a keychain, I initially doubted whether it could really take photographs. Yet the images it produced clearly captured the streets of Shibuya.

This time, I first tried all of the frames and filters. After that, I shot by randomly switching settings, following my instincts in the moment.

The Shibuya that appears in these images, while still a contemporary city, carries a texture that feels slightly out of sync in time. With its subtly muted tones and rough resolution, it resembles a kind of time slip back to 1987, giving familiar scenes an entirely different context.

For a while, I plan to continue carrying the “KODAK CHARMERA” as a keychain. I am interested to see what kinds of moments it will capture in everyday life, and how that experience might evolve over time. ■

「KODAK CHARMERA キーチェーンデジタルカメラ」で、渋谷駅周辺を撮影した。

普段、渋谷の街はRICOH GR IVで記録している。しかし、「KODAK CHARMERA」で撮影した写真を見たとき、その印象はまったく異なるものだった。同じ場所でありながら、どこか別の層に触れているような、不思議な距離感があり、見慣れた風景が新鮮なものとして立ち上がってくる。

キーホルダーのように小さく軽いこのカメラで、本当に写真が撮れているのか、最初は半信半疑だった。それでも、実際に記録された画像には、確かに渋谷の街が捉えられていた。

今回は、まずすべてのフレームやフィルターを一通り試した。その後は、そのときの感覚に従って、ランダムに設定を切り替えながら撮影した。

写し出された渋谷は、現在の都市でありながら、どこか時間の層がずれたような質感を持っていた。1987年にタイムスリップしたかのような、わずかにくすんだ色味と粗い解像感が、見慣れた景色に別の文脈を与えている。

しばらくのあいだ、「KODAK CHARMERA」をキーホルダーとして持ち歩く生活を続けてみたいと思う。日常の中で、どのような瞬間がこのカメラによって切り取られていくのか、その変化を見ていきたいと思う。■
