Street Snap #62 National Theatre Okinawa by Shin Takamatsu

I visited the National Theatre Okinawa in Naha. Designed by Shin Takamatsu and completed in 2004, the theatre was a building I had visited once before, but I wanted to photograph it again and preserve a record of it.

No performances were taking place on the day of my visit, and the theatre was quiet. The PC panels draw on motifs from traditional Okinawan houses, and the walls that curve sharply upward were particularly striking.

Under Okinawa’s intense sunlight, sharply defined areas of light and shadow appeared across the walls. The form of the rising walls and the strength of the shadows cast upon them stood out clearly.

For this series, I chose the Positive Film image control on the GR IV. It suited the strong contrast of Okinawa under clear skies and the crisp light and shadow created across the architecture. ■

那覇市にある国立劇場おきなわを訪れた。2004年に竣工した、高松伸設計の劇場である。この建築を訪れるのは二度目だが、改めて写真として記録に残したくなった。

訪れた日は公演が行われておらず、劇場は静かだった。PCパネルには沖縄の伝統住宅の意匠が引用されており、なかでも反り立つ壁が強く印象に残った。

沖縄の強い日差しを受け、その壁面にはくっきりとした光と影が生まれていた。反り立つ壁の形と、そこに落ちる影の強さが際立っていた。

今回は、GR IVのイメージコントロールにポジフィルム調を選んだ。沖縄の晴天が生む強いコントラストと、建築に生まれる鮮明な光と影によく合っていた。（→noteで詳細を読む） ■
