Street Snap #48 Shibuya on New Year’s Day captured with FUJIFILM QuickSnap

On New Year’s Day 2026, I photographed Shibuya using a FUJIFILM QuickSnap.

First released in 1986, QuickSnap is a disposable camera that integrates film and camera into a single unit. Before the widespread adoption of digital cameras, it was once a hugely popular product.

I chose to use QuickSnap on New Year’s Day, a moment that carries a quiet sense of significance. The location was Shibuya. It is a place I have photographed many times, a kind of personal home ground. By returning to a familiar setting, I hoped the distinctive qualities of photographs taken with QuickSnap would become more apparent.

Using QuickSnap again for the first time in decades, I was reminded of its inherent limitations: the slight mismatch between the viewfinder and the final image, and the inability to review photographs on the spot. These constraints felt both nostalgic and unexpectedly refreshing. The limitation of just 27 frames also sharpened my attention to each exposure, allowing chance and unpredictability to play a more visible role.

The photographs taken with QuickSnap carry a sense of nostalgia, yet they unmistakably belong to the present. I would be glad if viewers could sense this quiet tension between memory and the present moment within these images. ■

2026年の元日、渋谷を「写ルンです」で撮影した。

「写ルンです」は、1986年に発売された、フィルムとカメラが一体となった使い捨てカメラである。デジタルカメラが普及する以前には、大きなヒット商品として広く使われていた。

今回、元日というある種の節目となるタイミングで、「写ルンです」を使って撮影することにした。場所は渋谷である。渋谷は、これまで何度も撮影に訪れてきた、いわば自分にとってのホームグラウンドだ。あえていつもと同じ場所を選ぶことで、「写ルンです」で撮った写真の特性や違いが、より際立つのではないかと考えた。

何十年ぶりかに使った「写ルンです」は、ファインダーと実際の写りが完全には一致しないことや、その場で写真を確認できないことなど、さまざまな制約を伴っていた。その不自由さが、かえって懐かしく、そして新鮮でもあった。27枚しか撮れないという枚数の制限も、写真一枚一枚に向き合う意識を強め、結果として偶然性をより際立たせているように感じられた。

「写ルンです」で撮影された写真には、どこか懐かしさをまといながらも、確かに現在の時間が写し込まれている。そんな不思議な魅力を感じた。（→noteで詳細を読む）■
