Street Snap #45 Naha Air Base Air Show 2025, Okinawa

On December 14, 2025, I visited the Naha Air Base Air Show 2025, held at the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Naha Air Base in Naha, Okinawa.

The weekly forecast had predicted continuous rain, but as the event approached, the outlook gradually improved, with sunshine expected later in the day. On the morning itself, strong winds and intermittent rain persisted, yet as time passed, the sky slowly began to brighten. By the time the main event, the Blue Impulse aerobatic display, was about to begin, patches of blue sky were already visible through the clouds.

The venue was filled with visitors carrying telephoto lenses. Amid them, I chose to photograph the air show with the GR IV, equipped with a 28mm wide-angle lens. Rather than focusing solely on the aircraft, I wanted to include the people gazing upward and the atmosphere of the venue itself, capturing the distinctive scene that could only be found at Naha Air Base.

For this shoot, I applied the Positive Film image control on the GR IV. The aircraft, the spectators, and the constantly changing expressions of the sky are rendered as high-contrast images. I hope these photographs convey the experience of the air show at Naha Air Base as seen through the GR IV. ■

2025年12月14日、沖縄県那覇市の航空自衛隊那覇基地で開催された「美ら島エアフェスタ2025」を訪れた。

週間予報では雨が続く予想だったが、開催が近づくにつれて天気は持ち直し、午後からは回復するという予報に変わっていった。実際の当日は、朝から強い風と断続的な雨に見舞われながらも、時間の経過とともに空は次第に明るさを取り戻していった。メインイベントであるブルーインパルスの展示飛行が始まる頃には、雲の切れ間から晴れ間ものぞきはじめていた。

会場には、望遠レンズを携えた来場者の姿が数多くあった。その中で私は、28mmという広角レンズを備えたGR IVを手に、この航空祭を撮ることにした。航空機そのものだけでなく、それを見上げる人々の姿や、会場の空気感まで含めて記録したいと考えた。他でもない那覇基地ならではの風景を、撮りたかったのだ。

今回の撮影では、GR IVのイメージコントロールにポジフィルム調を適用した。航空機の機体と観客、そして変わりゆく空の表情を、コントラストの強い画として切り取っている。GR IVで捉えた那覇基地での航空祭を、写真を通して感じてもらえたら嬉しい。（→noteで詳細を読む）■
