I visited the Mori Art Museum in Roppongi Hills for the exhibition “The Architecture of Sou Fujimoto: Primordial Future Forest.” Marking his first large-scale solo exhibition in Japan, Sou Fujimoto, who gained wide recognition for designing the symbolic “Great Roof” of Expo 2025 Osaka, presents a comprehensive exploration of his work.
Upon entering the venue, visitors are led into a room called “Forest of Thinking.” Models are displayed not only across the floor but also suspended from the ceiling, filling the entire space with architectural forms. Large-scale models, such as the Great Roof for Expo 2025 and a multi-purpose complex in Sendai, were especially overwhelming, and their sheer scale left everyone in awe.
Throughout the exhibition, Fujimoto’s attitude toward conveying the possibilities of architecture with a sense of playfulness came through vividly. The diversity of visitors—from children to the elderly, from locals to international guests—was striking, underscoring the exhibition’s power to resonate across generations and cultures.
Photographed with the GR IV, the images faithfully capture the atmosphere of the venue and the tangible qualities of the works on display. ■

(→note)■
